Here is a great recipe that Natalie loves to have when she gets home for a visit…
Set yeast using the lukewarm water and sugar (about ten minutes) Pour molasses, rolled oats, shortening, egg and salt in large mixing bowl. Add the boiling water and the cold water. Test and if lukewarm, add yeast mixture. Add flour gradually. Knead well on a floured board. Put dough back into the bowl, cover with a towel and let it raise for about 40 minutes..(in a warm place.) Take your dough and shape into loaves and put in greased bread pans. Cover with a towel and let raise for 1 & a half hours. Bake in a 325 degree oven for about 40 to 50 minutes. Making sure bread has a nice medium brown color to it. Remove from pans and brush a bit of soft butter over the top.Â
I sometimes add 3/4 cup of raisin to the batter and it makes a great raison bread.
